The Ankara Metropolitan Municipality implemented the “Memory Ankara” project to create the urban identity. Stating that the project was developed with the aim of determining, documenting and sharing the social and spatial values ​​of the capital and making it known to the citizens of the city, ABB Chairman Mansur Yavaş said: “ With a vision far beyond simply launching asphalt and hanging a lucky poster next to it; We wanted to look at Ankara from a cultural point of view,” he said.

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality continues to add new projects to the projects it has implemented in order to create the urban identity.

Besides the protocol signed between the Department of Cultural and Natural Heritage of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality and Başkent University, with the contribution of scholars from many universities, to determine, document and share the social and structural/spatial values ​​of Ankara, the capital of the Republic, and thus ensure that they are recognized and known to the citizens of the city. For this purpose, the project “Memory Ankara” has been prepared.

The project developed in order to make better known the history and the values ​​of the city of Ankara; It was introduced with an organized program in the ABB conference room.

“WE WILL ENRICH OURSELVES WITH ANKARA’S CONTRIBUTIONS”

“For a year, our project team compiled the structures, monuments and areas that have been in the cultural memory of the people of Ankara, and also researched and documented the people and institutions that left important traces in the business, science, art and cultural life of Ankara.In addition, the stories of urban images that play an important role in the overall identity of the people of Ankara and the structures that make up the belief system are also compiled and archived. kazan was raised. Finally, in the sense of urban folklore, a project section, entitled the stories of the city, composed mainly of memoirs and compiled stories, will be enriched over time with the contributions of the people of Ankara Over time, the project will continue to develop with new compilations and participations.

THE PROJECT AREA BECOMES A NATIONAL HISTORIC CITY CENTER

The information and results obtained through 1 concurrent studies lasting 3 years and carried out in and around the urban site of the historic city center of Ulus and its surroundings will be linked to each other and shared on the address Internet “memlek.ankara.bel.tr” after the introductory meeting.

In addition, under the project, printing plates containing Turkish and English information on the values ​​determined to occupy an important place in the formation of Ankara’s urban identity were prepared and hung on buildings.

The “Memory Ankara” project team carried out the following activities in the historic city center of Ulus for 1 year:

-As part of study 1; Structures, monuments and areas that took place in the memory of the inhabitants of Ankara or led to the formation of social values ​​were studied.

– As part of Study 2; The people of Ankara who have left important traces in business, science, art and cultural life and the structures where families live, study, work, produce, brands and corresponding structures that ensure economic development , the cultural and artistic institutions that ensure social development, the places corresponding to researched and documented daily life.

– Within the framework of Study 3; The stories of the structures that play an important role in the multi-layered identity of Ankara, the structures that make up the belief system, the people or families that add value to Ankara, the cultural and artistic institutions, the brands, the daily life and the corresponding structures/spaces were revealed, and in this way, the richness of meaning of the city was revealed. and presented in a pluralistic way.

COMPLETED TOWN STORIES

The Memory Ankara team also conducted an oral history study under the title “City Stories”. Citizens’ experiences and memories related to daily life and extraordinary events in Ankara were compiled. In this study; It aimed to reveal the identity of the city, enriched by its spatial and social values, with the memories compiled from the interviews.

At the end of the program, Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş took photos with the guests in front of the Memory Ankara plaque erected in the Metropolitan Municipality building.
