The presidential library in the capital Ankara will serve bookworms 24/7


The presidential library in the capital Ankara will now be open to 1,500 book lovers 24 hours a day, seven days a week after Turkey’s gradual easing of coronavirus restrictions.

The 5,000-seat library had been closed to visitors from March 15 to May 31, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was then opened with a capacity limited to 1,000 between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. starting June 1, 2020.

With an increase in the rate of vaccination against COVID-19 in Turkey and the resumption of face-to-face teaching in schools and higher education institutions affiliated with the Ministry of Education, working hours and capacity of the Presidential Library have also been updated.

According to the latest arrangements, the library will remain open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and will accommodate 1,500 bibliophiles and researchers.

The library’s second and fourth floor reading rooms, as well as the Rare Book Library, Research Library, Cihannuma (World Atlas) Room and Reference Section will be open day and night.

The youth library, for readers aged 10 to 15, the Nasreddin Hodja children’s library, named after the famous Seljuk satirist and accessible to readers aged 5 to 10, and the periodicals room will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. pm

However, the Media Library will remain closed.

Built on an area of ​​125,000 square meters inside the presidential complex, the library can accommodate 5,000 visitors. It includes 4 million printed books, more than 120 million electronic editions and 550,000 electronic books in 134 different languages.

It is also home to many rare collections and 120 million articles and reports.

The library’s contemporary design is inspired by Seljuk and Ottoman architecture.
