Launch of the Ethiopia-Turkey Trade and Investment Forum in Ankara –


Addis Ababa, March 29, 2022 (Walta) – The Embassy of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in Ankara, Turkey yesterday organized a trade and investment forum in Ankara in collaboration with the Confederation of Industrial Businesswomen and Businessmen (SANKON).

Ambassador Adem Mohamed, in his opening speech, recognized Turkish investors as the second largest investors in Ethiopia, engaging in different sectors, creating employment opportunities for thousands of people and exploring the vast opportunities .

Highlighting the strong relations that Ethiopia and Turkey have, including their strong people-to-people relations, the Ambassador called on the business community of the two countries to help cement the relationship in business and investment.

Ambassador Adem highlighted the Ethiopian government’s commitment to foreign investors and explained the steps taken by the government to reform rules and regulations and open new areas of investment to foreign investors.

Ferudun Cevahiroglu, President of the Confederation of Industrial Businesswomen and Businessmen (SANKON) said that there is a strong relationship between the two countries and affirmed the Turkish government’s support for Ethiopia’s growth and development.

Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Association Board Member Dr. Aynalem Abayneh on his part said his organization’s efforts to help facilitate business between Turkey and Ethiopia and announced his organization’s plan to host a business delegation to Ethiopia in collaboration with SANKON.

He also reiterated the need to establish strong economic relations with Ethiopians and noted the huge opportunities that Ethiopia presents for Turkish investors in different sectors.

A panel discussion and PowerPoint were presented in four major investment opportunities for attendees and a Q&A session followed. The presentation covers the field of textiles and agro-industry; leather, mining and energy; technology and tourism; and the fields of pharmacy and health. The presentation from the Ethiopian side was made by HE Wubie Mengistu, Acting Secretary General of the Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce.

On the second day, a B2B session was held today between Ethiopian and Turkish businessmen, followed by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Association and SANKON in the presence of Ambassador Adem Mohamed.

During the business forum, more than 100 Turkish businessmen and more than 25 Ethiopian attend the tax meeting and more Turks participate online.

Prior to the forum, a discussion took place between the Embassy and SANKON executives regarding the strong investment opportunities in Ethiopia.
