The Ethiopian Embassy in Ankara, Turkey organized a two-day trade and investment forum in collaboration with the Confederation of Industrial Businesswomen and Businessmen of Turkey (SANKON).
In his opening remarks, Adem Mohammed, Ambassador of Ethiopia to Turkey, highlighted the strong relations between Ethiopia and Turkey, noting that Turkish investors are the second largest foreign investors in Ethiopia, engaging in various sectors and creating thousands of jobs.
The strong ties between the two countries should be cemented by business and investment relations between the business communities, the ambassador said. He also reaffirmed his government’s commitment to assist investors in their projects in Ethiopia.
Ferudun Cevahiroglu, President of the Confederation of Industrial Businessmen and Women of Turkey (SANKON), also reiterated the Turkish government’s commitment to supporting Ethiopia’s growth and development.
During the forum, a panel discussion as well as a slide presentation on four major investment opportunities took place. The four areas covered were textiles and agro-industry; leather, mining and energy; technology and tourism; and Pharmaceuticals and Health. Wubie Mengistu, Acting Secretary General of the Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce, moderated the presentation.
On the second day, a B2B session was held between Ethiopian and Turkish businessmen, followed by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Association and SANKON in attendance.
More than 100 members of the Turkish business community, as well as more than 25 Ethiopian businessmen took part in the trade and investment forum.
