Emphasizing that irregular migration as a global problem with global consequences requires a cooperation and solidarity at national and international levelCristian Urse, Head of the Council of Europe Program Office in Ankara, pointed out that Turkey has set a good example for other countries by taking effective legal and practical measures against irregular migration at national level and actively participating in international initiatives on information and knowledge exchange, joint struggle and cooperation on irregular migration.

Levent Özsel, Acting Director of the Continuing Education Center Command, gave an overview of the certification program and thanked the Council of Europe Program Office in Ankara for their support in organizing the event.

Murat Bulut, President of the Gendarmerie and Coastguard Academy, explained that Turkey’s fight against irregular migration and the experience gained through effective migration management policies and practices are analyzed through academic and scientific studies, adding that the program was intended to provide an opportunity to share findings with the international law enforcement community. Stressing that these large-scale events on the management of irregular migration contribute significantly to international cooperation and solidarity, Mr. Bulut expressed his gratitude for the financial and expert support provided by the action “Strengthening the protection Rights of Migrants and Victims of Human Trafficking in Turkey” to facilitate the organization of the certification program.

The action “Strengthening the protection of the human rights of migrants and victims of human trafficking in Turkey” is implemented within the framework of the joint European Union/Council of Europe program “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022”.
