Battle of the Ankara – Honey TV’s All New Fashion Contest

Thrilling fashion is back with HONEY TV’s first fashion contest, Battle of Ankara. The show is a design competition where 10 up-and-coming fashion designers from different countries compete for the crown of Ankara fashion. All designs are inspired, rooted and based on Ankara material. Designers from Ghana, Botswana, Zimbabwe and more descend on Cape Town-based Fedisa Fashion School.

The show is hosted by Radio DJ, Luthando “LootLove” Shosha. “It’s the first time I’ve hosted a show of this caliber and it’s exciting to experience competition on the other side,” she says. “It really opened my eyes to the talent we have and how you really contribute to someone’s future.”

Bringing together the best minds in fashion, the show counts among the judges esteemed designers, Gert-Johan Coetzee and Palesa Mokubung. “What surprises me the most is how Ankara is used in new and original ways,” says Coetzee. “We’re used to seeing the fabric used in a very traditional way, but contestants are bringing their A game and creating much more unexpected designs.” Mokubung remarks that she “has been a guest judge at other fashion shows and being a permanent judge has always been a dream of mine.” The show adds to the channel’s hot take on style and fashion across Africa, having aired shows such as Shine Shine and guess the dressproduced by Burnt Onion.

The Battle of Ankara airs April 15 at 4 p.m. on HONEY, DStv 173. Follow
